Marble is a naturally occurring metamorphic stone that has been around for centuries. Ancient Greece and Roman civilisations extracted and used the stone in architecture and interior design, creating ornate colonnades and pediments with intricate detailing. In the later centuries, it was used to build temples and wonders of the world, such as the Taj Mahal, along with adorning interior elements like flooring and wall cladding. Painter, architect and sculptor Michelangelo used marble to create his masterpiece, David, which inspired generations of designers.
